Gurwood Early Learning Curriculum

Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)

Our curriculum is guided by the principles and practices of the Early Years Learning Framework which focuses on the holistic development of children, emphasising learning through play and exploration. It recognises the importance of the early childhood period being crucial in setting the foundation for lifelong learning.

Cultural and Ethnic Perspectives

Our centre takes into account cultural and ethnic perspectives, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. Our approach fosters a rich and diverse learning environment, promoting cultural sensitivity and understanding among children.

Reggio Emilia Approach

The incorporation of elements from the Reggio Emilia approach, which views the environment as the “third teacher,” is a progressive and child-centred approach. It encourages children to explore and learn through their surroundings, fostering creativity and critical thinking.

Environmental Responsibility

Caring for our future and our environment needs to begin early and raising responsible citizens who care for the environment is crucial in today’s world. Teaching children about sustainability and environmental responsibility from an early age can have a significant impact on their future choices and actions.

Play-Based Curriculum

A play-based curriculum is developmentally appropriate for young children. It allows them to learn through hands-on experiences and exploration. This approach encourages self-directed learning and helps children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Child-Led Learning

Our curriculum is centred around children’s interests and curiosity. This child-led approach ensures that learning is engaging and meaningful to each child, promoting a love for learning.

Continuous Teaching Opportunities

Our commitment to engaging with children throughout the day and using various teaching opportunities emphasises the importance of active, responsive teaching. We use a number of assessment tools to help address individual learning needs which facilitate meaningful interactions.
